France feeds into Spain on a cobalt stretch of the Mediterranean known as the Costa Brava. The whitewashed fishermen’s villages are sleepy in all seasons but summer when sunbathers hold vigil on their coarse sands. In the fall without the clutter and clatter of people the solitude is priceless.

A sampling from Madeline Vionnet’s repertoire is on display at the Musée des Arts Decoratifs. The exposition follows her career through the 20's where women were liberated from their corsets. Her style, using pure lines and a bias cut to hug curves, drastically changed the face of high fashion.
